Appraisal Program

Purpose

Appraisers are responsible for planning, conducting, assessing, communicating, and implementing performance appraisals of Illinois Trainers Network (ITN) trainers. The trainer performance appraisal process is not a disciplinary process but a developmental one. It is a process that focuses on goal planning and goal attainment. The performance appraisal is intended to identify and recognize those trainers who meet or exceed the ITN trainer expectations. In turn, it will also identify those trainers who do not meet these expectations and assist in providing the necessary guidelines and feedback to help achieve individual success as well as improve the overall performance and effectiveness of the ITN program.

Duties of the Performance Appraiser

  • Work cooperatively and communicate with Illinois Trainers Network (ITN) to conduct statewide performance appraisals for ITN trainers.
  • Appraise and assess instruction and its impact.
  • Conduct a pre-observation and post-observation conference.
  • Create detailed documentation of conferences/meetings.
  • Maintain records of trainer performance appraisal process.
  • Consult with trainer regarding outcome of performance appraisal.
  • Assist in supporting and planning trainer action plans.

Job Requirements

Job requirements of the performance appraiser include the following:

  • Possess a high level of expertise in gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing data to ensure sound and fair decisions.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Effectively use tools/skills (interpersonal skills, mentoring skills, verbal and written communication skills, etc.) that are common to performance appraisal.
  • Review and understand the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (INCCRRA) mission, and policies and procedures.
  • Review and understand current ITN curricula and training materials.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university in Education, Training, Communication, or related field.
  • Five years experience in training, and/or education required.
  • Background and knowledge in Early Childhood Education or training preferred.
